Singapore has always been a part of me, yet simultaneously a place I never really knew. Before I was even born, my father was relocated from Canada to Singapore for work, moving his family including my pregnant mother with him. This was a tumultuous time for my family, especially for my mother given the stresses of pregnancy while moving across the world. This was made exceptionally harder with my maternal grandfather growing ill, confined to a hospital bed. Just a day before I was born, my grandfather would pass away taking an even greater toll on my family. Nevertheless, I was born a plump 8 pounds 8 ounces, in a city far away from where my family called home.
WHY Do I want to go to SINGAPORE?

My family and I would live in Singapore for almost 3 years, embracing the culture and local customs. My family still vividly remembers the city, however, as an infant I have no memory of my time in Singapore. This creates a unique situation, in that my family would consider themselves locals while I would essentially be a tourist. This gap in my childhood has always encouraged me to revisit my birth place. Exploring where I spent the first three years of my life would be a truly enlightening experience that would allow me to reconnect with Singaporean culture and customs that I never had the opportunity to adopt.
